Meaning of Smile

Does smile mean happiness? And laughing gladness?

Do tears mean sadness? What then are tears of joy?

What then really is smile, when we can't read how others feel?

Sometimes a smile is a mask we wear to pretend we're happy;
to show people that we're okay. Hiding feelings felt inside.
But deep within, gosh nothing's alright.

Does crying mean sorrowfulness? That everybody presumes.
Thinking they perceive, thinking they know.

But pleasure sometimes can't be seen in smiles,
but in tears in the eyes.

That, then, is the meaning of a smile.

Always, when tears well in your eyes, you run away to be alone. You run to a mirror, . . . . and your pretty image smiles at you.

And then you smile back at her. You tell her, "Oh my, you're so charming!"

And it feels nice telling the truth to your image.

That, then, is what tears bring you. So you come out back to us shining with a smile, a nice charming smile.

That, then, is what your smile means.

And seeing a smile on your face, I always ask, "Have you just cried?"
